Cyber terrorism and cyber warfare in context of developing nation

When we talk about cyber terrorism and warfare (CTW), it’s not just at the international level, now it has taken a new form at an individual level where infiltrators and cyber attackers are taking down portals and websites according to their will and situation. It is not just an example of one or two cases but defining the terminology vaguely was past but now due to comfort of growing accessibility the limitation, techniques and bricks of CTW has changed and is diversifying with the concept and revolution of internet. It is now at individual level that targets each and every one of us with the stipulated location.
Looking at the dynamics of internet, the concept of CTW is also changing reaching out in the cyber space at individual level where we lack proper policy and standardization issue.

Though looking at it from a developed perspective might seem as a minor issue but it risks each and every individual who is beyond the secured territory. One can imagine the concept and evolution of internet and just like that the dynamics of CTW is also changing with respect to every individual online?
Getting down to definition,  Cyber Terrorism (CT) is a concept of taking out a vast majority of an online network in a regional basis threatening and risking large-scale disruption of computer networks, with the help of internet by means of computer viruses or any sort of other tools. It can also be lauded as a threat to take down or creating any sort of conceptual framework resulting in a mass disruption of any network in cyberspace resulting in mass destruction.

Whereas Cyber warfare (CW) is a state of action in relation of protection or attack with the consequences of targeting or causing any harm to the websites or groups in cyberspace with a selfish motive.

Now looking at the context of developed countries, it is very well addressed to what has been practiced and working but looking at the context of developing countries and below the margin, the situation is drastically bad. When I say bad, I mean to say in terms of policies and mechanisms to curb and act at times of emergencies. Still today we are talking about big conference where we are still lacking the major issues of DIGITAL DIVIDE and NET NEUTRALITY. The representation and talks about the concepts lacks because the issues get lost in vagueness of power politics and power representation.
Just have a look at the major representation at any of the technological forum, it consist of power language and lobbying techniques.

What is the main problem or issue?

The main problem or issue is the lack of proper policies and mechanisms. Whether you talk about ACTA, SOPA etc all these issues were imposed and counter played because of power politics. In most of the case scenario the big bills bully lobby their plan where the developing countries have no voice.

It’s not about the fight for power but it’s about the fight of control that caters the need of power representation.  Even today cyber space has become a weapon for the vulnerable where one can easily find contents like how to make bombs? Or how to make a virus? It is not about personal freedom but what about the security of the rest. The same information can be used by an expert but for a naive it’s a time bomb ticking.

We are fighting today with the global voice that says internet is for everyone where we hugely lack in terms of operation and hinders us at individual level. It’s very controversial yet contradictory but this is the reality that faces no judgment.

Problem of the developing country
·         The government searches more control over technology and field
·         Private sector harnessing and growing the tech world increases the risk of competition
·         Lack of effective resource personals
·         Lack of proper mechanism in case of emergency
·         Lack of policy
·         Lack of priority

Technology has been passed on to the developing country for the sake of profit and business as the developed countries are prepared and are harnessing the business. But for the developing countries to meet with the limited option of what is thrown back to them is a limited option that has to be accepted at any cost. Reality is developing countries provide a platform for the big players to manipulate where technology is still expensive and still today internet in unreachable from one end to the other.
What is the use when one end gets a full benefit and the cost of technology is less and the other end risks it all at a cost that is unbearable………….
Internet governance at the local stakeholdership is just a concept of power politics that lack majorly in action.

LOKTANTRA DIWAS or loottantra

Today is LOKTANTRA DIWAS hundreds of so called shahids died for it and only few group of people  are enjoying the loot-tantra. Billions of rupees were wasted in marking and reclaiming the pride and prestige of people but unfortunately there were too many issue of party politics, people’s individual ego and so many things that the country was lest prioritize. The nation should have been the priority but it was the least, our political leader made it worst indulging themselves in power politics and corruption. They degraded the pride and prestige of their name where today a the word Neta is considered a slang….

Nation first, was never a condition it was just a slogan for the political manifesto………..

Democracy believes in equality and law by the book but a country like ours that follows the rule of corruption, nepotism and favoritism, things are more biased and manipulative. We have a President who aspires to have been redeemed because of his cast, we have parties that believe in communism and they have million of dollars, our poverty rates have gone up,  reservation gives upper hand to a janjati when his percentage is less and a qualified person has to draw back because of his cast etc these are the achievements of LOKTANTRA

We need a standardization in terms of politics. Politics in education sector is wrong, political parties doing anything and everything for the benefit of their party is wrong
Country should be the priority  not the party ……..

The country needs intellects not reservation, the country needs good leaders not politicians………………
I’m not celebrating this LOKTANTRA because I fail to believe in this LOKTANTRA and this system.

POLITICS SHOULD BE DONE ONLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE NATION ……

KYC- kill your customer………………..

Most of the banks have asked their account holders to update their information in compliance with Nepal Rastra Bank’s directive of filling the Know Your Client (KYC) form where most of us think it is done against corruption. But reality is KYC is not just being done for the purpose of public it has been imposed by the US government with pressure to blacklist us if we do not take initiative against the money laundering. Nepal was in the line of being blacklisted internationally for failing to comply with international money laundering rules and regulations. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global anti- money laundering body, was considering blacklisting Nepal if the government had failed to introduce a law against organized crime. In a worst-case scenario, all banking correspondence could stop, and flow of aid and grants come to a standstill.

If blacklisted, foreign banks may not approve the letters of credit issued by Nepali banks. Such a scenario will also severely diminish Nepal’s prospects of getting foreign aid and investments.
The KYC forms is based on Anti Money Laundering and Combating Finance to Terrorism regulations, that require detailed information of the account holder, including citizenship certificate numbers and issue date of the kin, including that of grandparents, parents, sons, daughters and daughters-in-law. Likewise, the banks also require proof of address or the details of landlords. Know Your Customer refers to the procedures needed to be undertaken by financial institutions to identify and understand their customers in order to detect any sign of abnormal financial activities in their account. The insistence by banks that customers provide the citizenship numbers of their grandparents has irked account holders the most. The forms that require the citizenship numbers of the customers’ grandparents and daughters-in-law seem to keep potential customers away.

Every time I see or smell the taste of Aloo Paratha my mouth waters with my jaws wide open. I completely go irrational and I cannot  control myself at any point . It is completely magical how my taste buds react but having said that I’m not shy to eat Aloo Paratha at any place or point of time. In Kathmandu you can get the Aloo Parathas at the local Tanduri Nan Shop. The famous one is the Lumbini Tanduri Nan Outlets which are spread across the capital.  The specialty of this outlets are local Indian cuisines like dal makhani, rajma, panir tikka, dal fry, egg curry, chicken curry etc and most interestingly the prices are very less. WHY THIS DISCRIMINATION…..?

It is pretty amazing and shocking how WOMEN RAPE cases specially GANG RAPES are increasing all over the world. From the Delhi Rape case that shook the nation to the recent 5 years old underage rape case things are looking serious about women security and safety in India.

Recently in such ordeal a Nepali woman in her early 20s was GANG RAPED in the national capital New Delhi  on April 18, 2013. Despite the atrocious act the case was subsided by another RAPE CASE of a 5 years old child. The GANG RAPE case was overshadowed and was less prioritized. I’m not being bias about any of the cases but both the cases were hideous act against women but why one be so sensitized and another so marginalized ?

The Nepali woman was found in half-naked and semi-conscious condition near Nanakpura flyover in south Delhi around 7.30 a.m. and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where she was treated.
According to the  police, ” she was abducted from Kotla Mubarkpur area near South Extension in south Delhi April 17 night by three unidentified people, who raped and dumped her near the flyover.”

Till now  nothing has been done, the police are just investigating. On the other hand in the 5 years old  under age rape case the culprit has been caught and is under trial.

The 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW57) that took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 4 to 15 March 2013 has concluded its Member States to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. The conference which was themed Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls was conducted successfully with the commitment from all the member state to fight against the cause.

BBC reports, “A bill containing harsher punishments for rapists was passed by India’s parliament earlier in March. The new law is a combination of just thinking about gender and existing patriarchal attitudes in society, as well as those ingrained in the colonial Indian Penal Code of 1860. It also reflects the government’s desire to be seen as tough on crimes against women..”

Discrimination on the basis of nationality is wrong. A crime is a crime which cannot be justified. Any crime as it happens, the culprits should be brought by the books or else if conditions are applied and If there are issues of manipulation then there is no JUSTICE. Then justice becomes JUSTICE DENIED.

WHY THIS DISCRIMINATION…..?

The fb generation

Using facebook on one hand people have become so dull and addicted with it where as on the other people are so expressive, they are networking, exploring their possibilities and trying their entrepreneurship skill, voicing their rights, speaking about their problems etc. It has given people a common platform of voicing their ideas and thoughts and to relate them  to the issues that were previously hidden. In fact realty is FB is next achievement of the twenty first century that has socially, psychological  and individually affected each and everyone of us at different level.

The Egypt revolution, the Indian rape case and Nepal Facebook movement all are examples of people’s will, determination  and interest but there was a common factor, yes it was facebook. It was through facebook that people coordinated. One idea of change that was alone and had the courage to stand found many to voices and support. It made the change possible with just the form of expression that was easy and that was limitless of any boundaries.

Looking at individual level, every individual has so much to say and express but in the run of making your life work, the feelings, emotions and expressions are overshadowed by tensions, and problems. At the end of the day your left with loads of frustration from irregularities happening around to corruption to your wife not giving you attention to everything  that piles up. FB gives you a platform where you can express yourself to be who you are and to have your say …?

Regardless of any consequences of making it loud that you are you and no matter what you will remain the same…….

Reality of today with facbook is the only standardize platform that talks about all phase of life from politics, psychology, crime and everything. Its unlimited and due to its unrestricted ability its has scored an image of being a friend of all. A friend that listens, that awakes and that increasing the LIKES saying you are not alone.

Except for the fact that it gets annoying at times with its marketing technique of showing unrelated post of groups that you cannot stop from displaying in your  news feed but hey its reality they also need to survive and  it just for the sake of numbers…..

The fb generation certainly has a way of change, how is the way you interpret…………………

Food speaks the language of Tradition and Culture

Food is not just a commodity; it holds much to it then to its literal meaning. Having said that food not only explores the possibilities of opportunity but it is a way of life or existence. It is said food not only satisfies your appetite but it psychologically makes you feel at home. Like such, the Nepali tradition of food certainly highlights a great deal of importance in its cultural and traditional values.

“To know the food is to know the culture and tradition,” This statement certainly justifies the meaning as food that entails different aspect of traditional values. Nepali food is something that gives you the right taste and flavors. In Nepal there are around 50 different ethnic groups, with distinctive languages, dress, and customs and to degree cuisines. In remote areas, there is little choice, you eat what you grow. But the foods prepared during festivals are rare and unique in their own way. Nepalese recipes consist of many spices and herbs, which are used in each dish in a different proportion and manner. This makes each recipe unique in its own way. Heavily influenced by Indian and Tibetan cuisine Nepalese food still hold its unique taste and presence where it is highly considered healthy and extremely nourishing.

Highlighting, that there are several regional variations in Nepali food, but one dish more than any other has come to characterize the country’s cuisine it’s the dal-bhat-tarkari. Dal is a lentil sauce that is eaten with the bhat (rice). Tarkari is a generic name for curry vegetable and can be prepared in different ways according to seasonal availability of vegetables and local preferences. It is often served with achar (pickles) which do much to enhance overall appeal.

Like such, the Thakali food is yet another rich version of dal-bhat-tarkari which is popular for its tastes and species. The Thakali food has also aspired its ways to the Nepali Restaurant Industry and to dining habits and may be due to its full diet or vivid taste it is very popular among Nepali as well as foreigners. The Thakali food comes from the tradition of the people of Tibetan affinity who settled in Thak-Khola Valley. Thakali cuisine also uses locally-grown buckwheat, barley, millet and dal as well as rice and dal. The Thakali food set generally consist flavors of rich spicy content that shows the rich and vast array of exploration of taste buds.

Now talking more about the taste variation, Nepalese love spices and pickles, it’s an essential part of their diet. Pickles mostly come salty, sour, sweet or tangy, all big on flavor such that just a spoonful is needed with the meal. It adds flavor and it blend into any type of dish and has become an important part of Nepali cuisine.

Looking and understanding the taste, dal bhat tarkaari is common among Newars, one of the oldest inhabitants of Kathmandu but they have incorporated it in a variation of taste. Another popular item among them is chiura: dried beaten rice, served with an array of meat and vegetable curries and pickle.
Outside the Kathmandu Valley where the variety of vegetables and ingredients is much less, diets are simpler. Above 3000 meters, of altitudes, corn, millet, buckwheat, barley and wheat take over as staples. The everyday lunch and dinner of many hill villagers is dhindo, a thick mush of boiled ground grains, doctored up with a soupy vegetable sauce of the ubiquitous.

Nepali saag (spinach), gundruk (dried and fermented vegetable leaves) or sisnu (nettles) are commonly used according to availability. In the far west, hill dwellers subsist on heavy bread made from a crude brown wheat or buckwheat. Barley, potatoes, dairy products and a few hardy vegetables fuel the highest Himalayan settlers of Nepal. Traders to Tibet cross 6000 meter passes carrying little more than dry tsampa (roasted fine-ground grains) to mix with butter tea, and perhaps some dried cheese (churpi) or meat. If you’re up in the Khumbu, Langtang or Manang/Jomsom areas, be sure to try some tsampa. You can also buy it in Kathmandu’s Asan bazaar. The delicious, nutty flavor and nutritious, high-energy content make it an ideal trekking food. You may have less success in downing a cup of Tibetan butter tea, known to put off most Westerners and even Nepali lowlanders.

Tibetan influences increase the further north you go, although perenial favourites, such as the momo (a stuffed dumpling, fried or steamed), are widely available in the lower regions too. In the trekking regions, you are likely to encounter little other than Nepali food, which some people may find slightly monotonous. The choice is greater in the Terai where you will also find many excellent Indian dishes.

Perhaps, the traditional food in Kathmandu has been monopolized by few of the restaurants creating their own name and fame in giving people a new taste in same old traditional way.

Bhojan Griha is one of the oldest restaurants located in Dillibazar with the taste and feel of ancient days. The property is located in a traditional setting and dates back over 150 years. Originally belonging to the royal priest of the king of Nepal, it’s a historical monument. A renovated history of 4 storey building, it Taste authentic organic Nepalese food then what more can you expect. The food is served with local
folk dances and songs with the tradition of Nepali essence. Dining at Bhojan Griha, meaning House of Food, is a unique experience of splurging into the taste of Nepal. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day.

Similarly, Bhancha Ghar is yet another destination that highlights the enigmatic presence and essence of Nepali tradition. It has been more than two decades that the Bhancha Ghar has been catering the needs of foreign guests. From 1989 AD, Bhancha Ghar has been promoting Nepalese cuisine with no priority for an entirely Nepalese restaurant. Bhancha Ghar is a total experience that serves not only food but a feeling and essence of Nepali tradition. With spices making the taste the variable meat dishes and vegetarian dishes prepared with Newari style, accompanied by house blends of raksi, gives it the taste of Nepali at its best. Center of focusing the lifestyles of various ethnic groups of Nepal the cultural show gives you the feel of true Nepali taste. Established in a faithfully restored aristocratic household and completely furnished with authentic Nepali craftsmanship, it offers fine traditional food in a relaxed and intimate setting.

Likewise, Nepali Chulo is yet another destination located in Lazimpat Road. The decor and interior highlights the Nepali tradition and culture that gives you the rich taste and flavor of its richness and essence. The building is an ancient Rana palace that is loud and clear about its standing. It offers the supreme traditional Nepali and Newari cuisine with dynamic cultural programs. The menu covers a veg and non-veg set plate, a thali on which will come all your smaller dishes.

Tukuche Thakali Kitchen, of Durbar Marg in Kathmandu, offers excellent food. The name itself Tukuche is an ancestral home of the Thakali people. The Tukuche serves 100% the traditional Thakali food that taste, smells and presents itself with the name and quality. In menu, one can find a wide selection of items that are typically Thakali as well as a smaller collection of items created to cater to customer demand. Usually, people who come here tend to go for the set meals, which are convenient and filling, but the other items on the menu are also worth exploring. With the essence of giving the taste even the meat used here is exclusively of hardy mountain goat or chicken. Among the several Thakali restaurants in town, Tukuche is one of the oldest establishments offering the best in terms of quality taste and presentation. Over their years of service, this place has gained a lot of ground in the local market. It’s certainly a great place to experience authentic Thakali cuisine.

Food in Nepal is not an option it’s a way of life. People have been eating food for many reasons, but in Nepal the food speaks the language of tradition and values. It’s a way to understand the true spirit where one can easy know the nature and presence by knowing the food.

A new way to see Adventure with wings …

How would you feel? If you are flying hundreds of meters above in the sky, just to witness the
magnificent birds Black Kites and Egyptian Vultures. Insane or crazy or adventurous whatever you
might say but for bird lovers, it is a treat. To be precise, Parahawking is an art of training birds of prey
to fly with paragliders; it was developed and pioneered in Pokhara by combining paragliding with the
ancient art of falconry. Parahawking provides a unique insight into these birds in-flight behavior from a
completely unique perspective as well as giving an experience of adrenaline. You can imagine yourself
flying like a bird with the attention and focus of another giant bird.

Especially being recognized as one of the number 1 adventure activity in Pokhara, by BBC, Nat Geo,
Discovery Channel and recommended by the Lonely Planet, the Parahawking Tandem has been taken
seriously by adventure enthusiast.

Parahawking was developed by British falconer Scott Mason in 2001. Mason is a common name in the
Nepal rescue and rehabilitation of birds’ conservation society. With Parahawking, birds of prey are
trained to fly with paragliders, guiding them to thermals for in-flight rewards and performing aerobatic
maneuvers. During the flight the pilot or passenger will place small morsels of meat onto their gloved
hand, the birds will come and gently land on the hand to take the food, and then gracefully fly away to
find the next thermal.

On average Parahawking costs around 130 pounds where is feasible from October to mid April. Training
and flying birds are done during the dry season between September and March. Parahawking supports
Vulture conservation by donating 10 Euros from every Parahawking activity in Nepal. The Parahawking
project not only supports the Vulture conservation but during the spare time its volunteers are actively
seen in saving and raising awareness about the project of these big giant birds.

The concept of Parahawking began when Mason was on a round-the-world trip in Pokhara, Nepal,
where he was studying about birds behavior specifically griffon vulture, steppe eagle and black kite.
During one of his research session, while taking a tandem paragliding flight with British paraglider Adam
Hill, he had the opportunity to see raptors in flight, and realized that he could combine the sports of
paragliding and falconry. He figured out it was interesting as well as exciting as people were unaware
about the giant birds and people had many question regarding their in flight behavior.

The team started by training two black kites, but have since added 2 Egyptian vulture. With a lot of
restrict and limitations Parahawking has been fight against legal grounds with the wild life protection
act. Adapting the norms and regulation only rescued birds are used none of the birds have been taken
from the wild as the wild life protection act of Nepal Prohibits the use of any wildlife in any commercial
purpose.

Still struggling with controversy, Parahawking is an amazing experience where the bird guides you
through the skies. The experience is totally unique and unforgettable where you get to learn a lot about
these gentle beasts. On one hand surfing in the sky with the giant birds, you have the fun of a lifetime
where as on the other you play an important part in saving the bird by donating a certain amount for the Jatayu Restaurant.
